Blandings Turtle Meets Cat

posted in: Wildlife | 0

A few minutes ago I got back from exploring the fields around my house and found a surprise waiting for me. A Blandings turtle was sitting just outside the garage! My cat was very interested to meet the turtle. I was glad to see him too. Blandings turtles are becoming rare and are now a protected species in most of North America. Fortunately for us we are so far out in the wilderness that we see a lot of them. Each time I see a Blandings turtle I take photos of both sides of the shell so I can I identify them from one season to the next. By doing this I know that the same ones keep coming back to the pond behind my house. Here are a few photos of the turtle and a shot of some of the wildflowers growing around the pond.
