Dog Days of Summer

cat sleeping spread-eagle on his back

Cubby, our cat, finds some interesting ways to get through the dog days of summer. And he’s not the only one basking in summer heat. William, our American toad, continues to return to his personal bath on the front doorstep. A white-tailed deer comes to the pond to graze and cool off every day. Juvenile white-crowned sparrows rest in the garden and the funny looking woodcock uses the cool and damp early mornings to hunt for insects in long grass. We’re all trying to make the most of the warmth while we’ve got it!

Great photos and easy to read information and stories about the subject. You should submit your URL to local and distant, wild life magazines, papers and for kiddies ….. very entertaining.

Thank you! As this is a fairly new site I’ve considered it to be in its beta phase so I haven’t done anything yet to spread the word. I have wanted to be sure that everything is working properly before doing that. Now that I can see it’s working as intended I’ll begin to let people know the site is here. I hope that the quality of the content and way it’s presented will be of some fun or value to the audience you mentioned. My goal is for the site to be useful to kids, nature and art lovers, and serious outdoor enthusiasts too. We will soon see if it meets the interests any of those people! Thanks again!

Wonderful to see white tailed deer – so close too – calmly eating roots – quite undisturbed.

We usually think of deer feeding in forests and grasslands so it is interesting to see how fond they are of feeding on pond plants in water like this.
