Otter Boyd boy at pond with trees in fall colors

To welcome in the approaching fall season I’ve just changed the header image on the website and wanted to share a wider version of the same picture here. Autumn in Muskoka is an incredible site. We have a perfect combination of colorful deciduous trees highlighted against deep green conifers, and countless lakes and ponds waiting to reflect the display of vibrant colors and interesting shapes. It’s also a great time to canoe and fish. In this picture, taken at the beginning of last fall, I am standing at the edge of the water just before going in for a swim. After playing in the water I spent the rest of the day fishing, taking photos and enjoying the sun. Autumn is a magical season up here, one that comes on suddenly and is replaced by winter just as quickly. We have to soak up the warmth and those fleeting colorful days to make the most of them while they last!

Wonderful colours Otter Boyd – sometimes the sheer brightness of the reds and yellows make one think that the photos have been ‘touched up’. But, we know that isn’t so, the sunny days and cold nights of the Fall are perfect for revealing the beauty hidden in the dying embers of the recently luscious green leaves as they react to the heat and cold.

I agree that the colours can be so unusually intense and dramatic, specially when mixed in with the dark evergreens, that it seems unreal at times. We do get those sharp cold nights at just the right time of year to bring on that colour explosion. When that starts happening again this year I’ll get lots of photos and will share some here.
