Stars and Setting Moon over Fields

night photography stars and setting moon over fields

My secluded Muskoka home is well clear of any town or city light pollution making it an ideal location for stargazing and experimenting in night photography. From my front step I caught the moon setting behind the treeline and managed to capture some stars in the sky too. Some extra light on the landscape was provided by driveway lights and a handheld spotlight.

I also accidentally created an illusion of the flagpole seemingly planted in the middle of my woodpile. I didn’t really plant a flagpole in the middle of the pile of wood. The woodpile is actually about 15 feet in front of the flagpole. That is one of the interesting things that can happen in night photography. At night it can be difficult to notice or see some details with the naked eye and only later when the files are carefully processed do those details reveal themselves.

Nice one – yes I wondered at the flagpole in the woodpile – funnily enough I had similar with my sun umbrella looking like it was ‘planted’ in the middle of a pile of cement blocks that were in the foreground.

I imagine that might have looked like you had gone to extreme lengths to prevent the umbrella from being blown away.

Amazing glow from moon – lovely night concept with golden rod in foreground and the woodpile also highlighted. At first glance I was trying to polish my screen of white “specks” but read info that there were stars out there too – soooooo think the
    photo was :speck-tacular:!!

Thanks, I’ll post more night photos soon. This one was just to get things star-ted!

There is something mysterious about the night shots. I’ll post more soon.
