This abstract painting is one in a series I created quite some time ago. Though I titled the artwork here as “Elements, Liquid Fire and Water”, I really didn’t have a specific goal to paint fire and water. I’d rather let viewers see whatever they want to see in their own way.
I was fortunate to have artwork from this series chosen by a snowboard maker for use as a graphic on one of their snowboards. It looked great on a snowboard but where it looked best was in a high quality large format print. At a large size some of the vibrant colors seem to move around and flow as you look at it.
I would be happy to share a few more of these paintings here sometime so if there is some interest please let me know.

Wow – this is certainly a painting of impact – I can just see this in large size as a feature painting – on a wall where one could enjoy the experience of color. Quite a surprise Otter!!

I agree, this one does look nice at a large size.

Yes Otter Boyd – agree with Min – the colors are stunning, but I have to admit I am not a huge ‘abstract’ fan. However, in the right setting with complimentary shades of color in the room, this piece of art would attract much attention.

I feel that a lot of contemporary art is really the work of people who can’t paint so they make a mess, something obscene, vulgar or utterly meaningless and try to call that “art”. Nowadays that mock art unfortunately is often deemed more credible in the art establishment than actual painting. Sometimes though it is fun to see what can be done with design and colors without trying to rigidly conform to familiar or recognizable shapes. It can be like focusing in at the macro level on the things that make a flower, sky, colorful fish, bird or insect look appealing. It can call attention to the fine details of color and shape without diluting attention away by including the overall scene or object.
