For the beginning of Fall I thought it was a nice time to share one of my favorite paintings depicting the autumn season. I painted this artwork a couple years ago in watercolor and gouache paints. When I go for walks in the forests at this time of year the experience can be incredible. It feels like being inside a magical cocoon wrapped in a blanket woven from endless layers of warm colors and shadows. Just beyond the forest shelter, beyond the trees, is a sunny clear sky – and beyond that there is winter. This is what I tried to capture in the painting, and try to capture in some Fall forest photos too – that feeling of being safely wrapped up in something so immense, colorful and amazing that words and even pictures struggle to describe it. Really, the best way to feel it is to just go into the forests and have the experience!

This would be one of my favorites too Otter. You have reflected the colors so well and the intricate details of the Fall, leaves turning color on the trees, falling and on the ground. A late September/October day, the Fall, yet a day that one can go out in a tee shirt and feel the warmth of the sunshine. Great work Otter…..

Thank you! It certainly is warm enough for t-shirts today, so hot in fact that it may be a day to go for a swim at one of the local lakes.

This is a lovely painting of Autumn in all its glory – sometimes I find some message in a painting, and think it shows me the ending of a season with the continuing one of little boy moving forward confidently along the path of life.

thanks I like that message!
