A Poem By Otter
Some of the time it’s mischief I enjoy;
it’s just who I am, I’m that kind of boy.
But I try to behave on a few occasions each year;
I see one of those special events is now here.
It’s a great day, I want to do something kind;
what can I make or what will I find?
I decided to go for a walk in the woods;
until I arrived at a tree, and that’s where I stood.
Suddenly something landed on my head;
it was dropped by squirrel, fluffy and red.
The squirrel kept chattering as I searched on the ground;
I wouldn’t give up, until it was found.
Then I saw it, a simple fruit from the pine;
I knew right away it was for my Valentine.
I stuffed it in a pocket and rushed back to my shed;
where I added some sparkles and painted it red.
The pine cone turned into a jewel in the end;
ready to be shared with a very nice friend.
She will be pleased when she sees what I got her;
I might even become her favorite little Otter.
While making the gift I got covered in paint;
but if you think I’m having a bath now, I assure you I ain’t!
There are faster ways to clean up my mess;
as my friend gives me a hug I’ll wipe my hands in her dress.
I must hurry and find her before she gets away;
I need to get this over with so I can go fishing today.
The dock is the best place to begin any search;
because if I can’t find her there, at least I’ll catch perch.
So here you are, I made this specially for you;
sorry about the stains from all that wet paint and glue.
I had little time so making a gift was quite tricky;
all I could do was give you something sticky.
You’re probably thinking I’m such a little pest;
even on days I really try my best.
I make mischief and messes, and can’t help but annoy;
It’s just who I am, I’m that kind of boy!

Cute – don’t think this little girl is worried about a messy dress when she has a Valentine’s.
